Customize Facebook Newsfeed With Your Favorite Pages

Social media ‘Facebookers’ are well aware; there were a number of significant changes to the social media platform this week to appear in every user’s profile by October 1st.

And while I have not opted-in to the newest big change titled, Timeline  as of this writing, I have noticed that my Newsfeed does not seem to have the updates I have become accustomed to receiving.  Facebook is now tagging news using an algorithm which quantifies news it believes will be of interest to me. These news items are marked with a blue turn of the corner  titled Top Stories From the Last Day (pictured) but the remaining news items do not always meet my relevant expectations.

The pages that I like, with the updates I prefer are still visible in the feed but only if I hunt for them.

If you have found that to be the case in your newsfeed, I can show you how to bring news from your favorite pages forward.

You will need to have Lists set up and have used this feature to categorize your favorite pages (not friends).

Go to the Home section on your profile and next to Lists click the More button.

This opens up a page with your lists. In the upper right corner, click on Create a List and then name one such as Favorite Pages or whatever your interests may be.

Go to Manage Lists in the upper right and then select Add/Remove Friends. A new box will open with your friends and pages combined.

On the left hand side you will see the title of the List you just created which automatically defaults to Friends in the pull down menu.

Grab the menu and pull down and select the Pages option. All your pages that you liked will appear there.  Go through and start check them off.

Of course, if you have many favorites this selection choosing can become quite overwhelming.  You can use the keyword section at the top to sort through your favorites. So if you only want to select pages that have do with social media, keyword this and select just from those which appear.

You can then select from Updates to Show what type of news you wish to receive such as Comments and Likes, Games, Photos, etc.

Click Done.

Now back to Home and find the new list in your left column and when you click on it you will receive all the current news from your favorite pages.

    • Janine…..have you been reading my mind (or my FB feed)LOL I asked exactly this question on Facebook the other day. I’ve been finding the same thing you’re talking about…my favorite pages are getting lost in all the other stuff FB thinks I’m more interested in. Thank you so much of writing about this!!!!!!!

    • Hi Deb,

Thanks for your comments. I am not quite sure if this will change when I switch to ‘publish’ in the new Timeline format but I am led to believe this new(er) algorithm will remain the same with the new FB format.

You are most welcome. Post back if you have any comments or questions.
